virtual art: a weekend {not} in williamsburg, va

it's not the same.  but it's the best we can do in 2020.

this weekend was supposed to be one of my favourite road trips of the year:  an occasion for the arts in williamsburg, va.

the colonial williamsburg shoe “store,” obviously a draw for me. ;)

i have dozens of fond memories of williamsburg from my childhood-- mom LOVES history, and i'm a sucker for pedestrian-only car-less streets, hot cider at a roadside popup tent, and people in costumes and vintage shoes.  plus, amazing buildings, and you know, sheep hanging out outside under a tree.

plus, there's THE CHEESE SHOP (i knew it when it was back by baskin robbins) and the gorgeous ivy league-esque campus of william and mary.  and i love a great little college town.  it just makes me feel cooler and smarter.

i won a ribbon (twice) at this festival in previous years, and you can read more about that VERY special one right here. :)

i also went to high school on the other side of the water, so for four years of my impressionable years, we were only 45 minutes away from seemingly endless visits to the cobblestone streets and old-timey gingerbread cookies.

alas, the 2020 pandemic has cancelled all in-person art festivals for me. so instead of getting to road trip to virginia, i'm still home in south carolina, happily painting away, but wishing i was there talking to you in person about art and stories and how to beat the (still-worth-it) line at the cheese shop.
