my favorite reads of august
here are three books i recently read & loved!
serpent & dove, by shelby mahurin. this for fans of shadow & bone by leigh bardugo and anything fast-paced and funny and magic by tricia levenseller. the lines between good and evil get muddled when a (secret) witch and a do-gooder witch-hunter (trés handsome) soldier have to get married... (i avoided it for a while because there's a snake on the cover, but man, it was good! and no snakes inside, so yay!)
if the shoe fits, by julie murphy. a retelling of cinderella, modern disney-princess style. fresh out of design school (yay shoes! yay NYC!) our plus-sized princess goes on a reality dating show her stepmom produces. she kind of may have already flirted with "the bachelor," though... ;) a grown-up rom-com with a li'l bit of kissing and only a cuss or two.
amelia unabridged, by ashley schumacher. have i already read this book? yes. did i listen to it AgaIN on audio? also yes, because i love it. it's grief and friendship and a booknerd's dream of an author romance in a small lake michigan town. (YA romance/contemporary fiction. just can't get enough of it.)
my currently reading/TBR short stack:
in the wild light, by jeff zentner. ya contemporary, so beautifully written it makes me mad how good it is. started it last night before bed and could hardly sleep i kept thinking and dreaming about the characters.
the paris connection, by lorraine brown. grown-up rom-com, the kind of book i go to when i can't read anything too heavy or complicated! a woman gets separated from her fiancé when their train bound for his sister's wedding in amsterdam splits in two different directions in the middle of the night. she's "stuck" in paris for the day. i think there's a kind, handsome frenchman involved, too. (which is good because her fiancé seems like kind of a jerk from the first 100 pages i've read.) ;)
the moment of tenderness, by madeleine l'engle. you ask me who's at my fantasy dinner party? it's me and madeleine. a new collection of short stories out in paperback. it's calling to me from my tbr cabinet, for sure.
the forest of stars, by heather kasher. i won a signed copy in an instagram giveaway, and this just looks like the exact perfect magical young readers title i'd read and love. can't wait to dive in!
link to my monday morning weekly reading book reviews on instagram
none of this is sponsored, just book*nerd me telling you about books i enjoy and am looking forward to! feel free to email me with suggestions or new books to review!
that’s it for this month!
