super faves of the month…

there was nary a dud in all the books i read this month.. but because i must needs share the highlights stack each month, here are a handful of super*standouts...

bunnicula by deborah and james howe

a classic i can't believe i hadn't read before.

hilarious, charming, silly, and only sorta*spooky. and narrated by the family dog. perfection.

the pumpkin princess and the forever night by steven banbury

a lot of spook*tacular world*building and an orphan story like no other i'd read.

she's fearless. but also needs to find how to belong.

the hotel balzaar by kate diCamillo

queen kate can do no wrong, and her latest teeny tiny middle grade book full of interlocking mini*tales is a lonely gal in a bleak wes anderson film dream of an escape and happy ending.

a stroke of the pen: the lost stories by terry pratchett

i wouldn't dislike short stories if they were all this short and surprising and smart.

the haunting of hill house by shirley jackson.

a classic re*read in the name of a vigorous book club discussion makes me continue to wonder why i don't read as many classics as i used to.

the housekeeper and the professor by yoko ogawa

a charming, thought-provoking tale of the beauty of math, the power of inter-generational friendships and the promises of love and memory to prove patient.

what were some of your favorite stories YOU found in october?

can’t wait to see what stories we discover in november! :D
